The name of the company came from a dream and a concept that the company's products take care of and beautify human's skin just like fairy magic. Dr John S. Zhong and other partners with professional backgrounds established the company in 1996. Dr Zhong has his PhD degree in Chemical Engineering from UNSW, and is the Senior Chief Chemist in research and development of various areas of applied chemistry. The company has strong expertise in both manufacturing and research of various skin care, hair care and other body care products. The combination of the idea, advanced formulation and manufacture leads the quality of the products to a highly recognized level since the launch of the first seven products in 1996. The company now manufactures over 60 different products, over 30 of them are under its own brand name, SKINFAIRY, and the rest are contract manufacturing for other Australian companies as well as some famous worldwide companies.

Products under Skinfairy's brand name have been exported to China since 1996. In the past seven years, among the 32 provinces and areas of the country, almost every province and area including Taiwan and Hong Kong has agents or distributors selling Skinfairy's top-quality products. Since 1999, the company has continued a series of promotional activities in several main cities in China such as Shanghai, Guangzhou, Fuzhou, Qingdao, Chengdu and Beijing. Fourteen products have occupied the shelves of famous retail giants in China like Carringford, Watsons and Lian-Hua Supermarket Chain Stores. It is believed that Skinfairy Australia Pty Ltd is one of the few Australian companies that have over 10 products with the Chinese State Government's import permit certificates.

Although export is always the top priority of the company's operations, the company has now strengthened the marketing and services provided in the Australian market. Supplying good quality products to local shops and helping local companies in developing new personal care products, will lead to increase in business activities in Australia. It will also lead to more economic growth and more job positions. The company provides a high level of professional services to local companies such as formulating and consulting in this industry.
